Abstract

Abstract

The article focuses mainly on the metafictional aspect of the novel Generation X by Douglas Coupland and it highlights the influence of the media popular culture on the language and the imagery of the text.Coupland’s writing appears extremely self-conscious and self- reflexive: in the novel many literary processes and conventions are openly exposed by the narrator. The three main characters tell each other stories and in doing so they try to impose a narrative structure on their lives, turning them into “fiction”. There’s no clear separation between life and fiction: they interact and overlap continuously.
